Working in Explosive Environments – Certified Cold Work Tools

Explosive environments are among the most challenging places to work on. Refineries, Chemical Plants, Process Plants, Boats/Ships and Offshore Platforms are included among them.

In these environments, it is often necessary to do maintenance and modification jobs. Hot work permits are hard to get, or at the very least they should be. Some places will allow for Habitats, while others may want to avoid them altogether.  Even with a Habitat, there is no certainty a part of the process will not ignite.

Most often than not a Cold Work approach is desirable and particularly in an Operating Unit.

This approach is important for four reasons:

  • shorter turnaround times
  • the inability to get a Hot Work Permit
  • the need not to postpone the job
  • safety

Non Sparking Tools for Cutting Jobs

TFT-PNEUMATIC’s Certified Cold Work Cutting Tools are hands down the best option in the market for cutting & grinding applications in Explosive and Hazardous Environments.

Our tools are known in the market as Sparkless Grinders.

These tools are designed to remove metal upon contact at the Operators will. Whether your approach is to take off just the paint or if you want to grind down hard into bare-metal perhaps even removing bolts, beveling edges or even cutting into deck, pipe, and welds, we have the right tool for you.

Our tools are often used to:

  • remove skids
  • double plating/decking
  • removing a structure

We have tools that will remove the weld and be Certified as Cold Work, thus not needing a Hot Work Permit, Habitats, Shutdowns, Fireguards and so on.

See below for some applications and pictures.
